Basically, your scalp has millions of follicles which has a pigment called melanin, responsible for the natural color of your hairs. But, with time and as we age, melanin production starts slowing down and eventually stops which turns your hair grey.
In some cases, greying of hairs is normal (in 40s), but if you have grey/white hairs in your 20s then it is definitely a matter of concern. Having grey hairs is a result of poor lifestyle and unhealthy diet.
The main reasons behind getting your hairs grey at early age are:
1. Imbalanced diet
Not having a proper and balanced diet can accelerate up the process of greying of your hairs.
For ex: Consumption of fast food, sugar, processed foods, etc.
Regular and excessive smoking can trigger your hair follicles and speed up the process of greying your hairs.
Studies have concluded that premature greying of hair can also be a genetic problem which means that if your parents or grandparents have faced this problem in their 20’s, then you are also likely to face the same problem.
4. Chemical products
The harmful chemicals in hair dyes, shampoos, conditioners, serums and any chemical treatment you receive for your hairs will eventually lead you to have grey hairs.
Many problems can occur due to stress such as anxiety, headache, diabetes, depression, heart diseases and also hair greying.
6. Lack of nutrition
Premature greying of hairs can occur if we don’t have proper diet like not having intake of balanced and healthy diet such as Vitamin B12, B, E, D, biotin, etc.
Pollution can also be a major problem as they can harm your hair follicles which in result, accelerates the greying of your hairs.
Ways to prevent premature greying of hairs :
The sure shot key to beauty and health lies in your very own kitchen. Yes, you heard it right. Whether it be cold, cough, tanning or skin problem you can find every solution related to health and beauty in your kitchen.
And today, I am going to tell you some of the tips and ways which I personally tried to get rid of premature grey/white hairs and they have proved to work on some extent. Give a time span of 5-6 weeks and you will start seeing some miraculous results in the health of your hairs.
1. Consume a healthy & balanced diet
We have heard it many times that the health of our hairs reflect the health of our body, which is indeed true. Getting a healthy and balanced diet not only cures the premature greying of hairs but also solves, hand in hand other problems such as breakage, dryness, split ends, hair loss and gives you strong and glossy hairs.
You should start evaluating your eating habits and look out for foods that lack in your diet. You must include below vitamins and minerals which play a vital role in maintaining healthy hairs.
Protein-Milk, eggs, chicken, soy milk, tofu, etc.
Iron-Tofu, baked potatoes, green leafy vegetables, whole grains, lentils, etc.
Omega 3 fatty acids-sea food, nuts and seeds, flax seed oil, etc.
Vitamin A-carrots, broccoli, dairy products, fish , etc.
Vitamin B12– Eggs, meat, milk, fortified cereal breakfasts, etc.
Vitamin E– almonds, vegetable oil, spinach, broccoli, etc.
Last, but not the least,
Water, drink lots of water, approximately 3-4 litres of water or even more than that.
2. Amla powder/amlas
Amlas are loaded with vitamins, minerals, Vitamin C, anti microbial properties, antioxidants which not only cures premature greying of hairs but also strengthens, thickens, conditions, treats dandruff, cleanses your scalp, reduces friziness and also enhances hair color.
Ingredients : 200 ml of coconut/almond/olive oil, 2 tablespoons of amla powder/ 1-2 amlas.
Take a utensil and add all the above ingredients to it.
Heat the mixture and keep it on low flame for 20 minutes.
Let the mixture cool down for 20-24 hours.
Strain the mixture and pour it in a airtight bottle.
Take a utensil and add all the above ingredients to it.
Now you can use this oil twice a week, a night before you shampoo your hairs. Gently massage this oil into your scalp for 5 minutes.
3. Curry leaves
Curry leaves are highly filled with antioxidants which decreases the damage caused by sun rays and pollution. They are also loaded with protein, beta carotene and Vitamin B in curry leaves strengthens and revitalizes the hair follicles and also helps in restoring the natural color of your hairs.
Ingredients: 200 ml of coconut/olive/almond oil, 20-25 curry leaves.
Add all the above ingredients in a utensil.
Boil the mixture and keep it on low flame till it turns blackish in color.
Let the mixture cool down for a few hours.
Strain the mixture and pour it in a container.
Now you can massage this oil twice a week and leave it overnight.
Make sure you apply this oil the day before you shampoo your hairs.
4. Fenugreek seeds
Fenugreek is filled with potassium, amino acids and other several nutrients which helps you in diminishing the grey hair strands, promotes and nourishes hair growth and strengthens hair follicles.
Use this oil twice a week and leave it overnight on your hairs.
5. Essential oils
We all know that oiling is a important routine for your hairs to follow but, when we add essential oils to the normal oils, the method proves to be more effective than before, as they fight against many problems such as premature hair greying, enhances the original color of your hair, dandruff and many more.
Here, is the list of essential oils you can use:
Tea tree oil
Lavender essential oil
Rosemary essential oil
Lemon essential oil
Thyme essential oil
How to use?
Always dilute the essential oils in the carrier oil.
Add 5-6 drops of essential oil in the 2 tbsp carrier oil
Gently massage the oil into your scalp
6. Black tea rinse
Black tea is rich in tannic acid, which acts as an antioxidant and easily holds and binds to keratin protein of your hair and also helps in the production of melanin.
Ingredients: Black tea leaves, water.
How to prepare?
Do this remedy after you shampoo your hairs. Use it as a conditioner.
Add 2 glasses of water and 2 tbsp of black tea leaves in a utensil.
Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
After the mixture turns black in color, pour it in a container.
Let it cool.
Now apply the mixture to your scalp.
Let it stay for 15-20 minutes.
Now rinse your hairs with water. Don’t shampoo your hairs afterwards.
You can use this remedy twice a week and you will definitely start noticing some results.
Don’t take too much stress.
Put a limit on consuming fast food, processed food, sugar, etc.
Always wear scarfs to your hairs while going out in the sun.
Choose your hair products wisely and stay away from harmful chemical hair products.
I know, some of you must be thinking that I don’t have any grey hairs, but let me tell you that there’s no harm in taking care of your hairs and saving them from tomorrow’s disaster.
