Want to look your best from head to toe? Then, you gotta take care of your skin. As your face needs facial care routine, your body also needs the same care as your face does. The skin is the largest organ of our body, but many people often neglect certain aspects of our beauty routine.
Here, I am telling you a simple yet effective body care routine in the below steps:
Step 1 : Cleansing
Cleansing your full body is the first step of this full body care routine. Cleansing your body fully is very essential to follow further steps as it will open the pores of your skin which will make it easier for moisturizer/body lotion to get fully absorb into the skin.
Always use a hydrating soap or body wash that will maintain the moisture in your body.
How to cleanse?
Always cleanse your body with lukewarm water, not too hot, not too cold. Have a quick shower, not more than 5-10 minutes as long duration of showers can strip off the natural oils from your skin.
What to look while buying a soap/body wash?
Buy body cleansers that contain vitamins, tea tree oil, avocado oil, cocoa butter, etc.
Look for soap/body washes that are free of sodium lauryl sulphate (dries out your skin) and contains sodium lauroyl isethionate (cleanses gently).
Also avoid buying body cleansers which contains alcohol as they also dry out your skin.
Step 2 : Exfoliating
The skin of your body is much thicker than the skin of your face. Exfoliating your body is necessary as dead skin cells build up gradually, also new skin cells build up develop underneath. The dead skin cells will eventually clog your pores and end up in blocking moisturizers and oils in your skin. Also exfoliating your whole body can help in treating and preventing acne by preventing dirt, sweat, debris, bacteria getting stuck in underneath of your skin’s surface. Exfoliating will leave your skin brighter and glowing.
How often exfoliate?
Exfoliate your body once-twice a week, as over exfoliating can make your skin damaged and dry. If you have an extremely sensitive skin you must scrub only once in a week.
How to exfoliate?
Exfoliate each area for 30 seconds in circular motion. If you are experiencing a rash or sunburn avoid scrubbing in that particular area.
You can prepare a DIY scrub for yourself using sugar:Mix sugar granules (1 tbsp) with curd (5 tbsp) and salt (1 tbsp).
Step 3 : Shaving
Shaving is the 3rd step of this body care routine. Most of the time we think we are shaving correctly, but sometimes that’s really not the case. Shaving can be also called as exfoliation as it takes off a layer of your skin each time you shave.
How often shave?
Don’t shave every single day as the razor blade doesn’t just cut your hairs but also take off a layer of skin cells every time you shave.
Shave on alternate days or after every 2 days.
How to shave the correct way?
For shaving the correct way, shave after 5 to 10 minutes you have spend in the shower as water softens your skin and becomes easy to shave. Apply shaving gel or cream to the region you want to shave and then take it slow.
Go with the direction of your hair growth.
Use a good quality razor to avoid irritation and itchiness and keep switching out your razors after certain periods of time.
Step 4 : Moisturizing
Moisturizing your skin is the fourth, final and important step after cleansing, exfoliating and shaving. Moisturizing your body can give you abundant benefits such as :
Smoothens your skin
Prevent wrinkles and eczema
Prevents acne and itchiness
Keeps your skin youthful and healthy
Maintains skin’s elasticity
Keeps your skin firm and plump
If your skin is too dry, go for a moisturizer, if you have a normal or an oily skin go for a body lotion.
When to moisturize?
Moisturize your skin when it is damp, as it helps in sealing some of the water and keeps your skin moisturized and hydrated.
What ingredients to look for?
Look for a body lotion or moisturizer that contains some of the ingredients mentioned here such as humectants, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, antioxidants, shea butter, etc.
Buy body lotion/moisturizer that is free of fragrance, non comedogenic and is oil free.
